The family saloon may be just the thing for getting a caravan
to a holiday destination but, once you arrive, a nifty little
open-top runabout is better suited to sight-seeing around narrow
village streets, and sniffing the sea air.
This is the kind of driving for which AIXAM’s Scouty GTR
was designed. The Scouty is a lightweight, fun vehicle, the latest
introduction by French manufacturer AIXAM-MEGA, which brought
the open-top MAC 500 to UK-based caravanners a few years ago.
The Scouty is a quirky, hand-built product that is constructed
from impact-absorbing ABS acrylic body panels around a rigid aluminium
chassis and safety cage, making it very light and manoeuvrable
and, because it is just 273cm in length, it is also extremely
easy to park in tight spots.
With two sports seats and a removable hard top that stows in
the boot, it comes in a choice of eye-catching orange, silver
and blue with sporty styling such as contrasting bumpers, chunky
wheel arches, and 14” alloy wheels.
The Scouty has a 500cc, two cylinder Lombardini multi-point injection
engine, offering a top speed of up to 70 miles per hour, and a
fully automatic variable transmission. Petrol consumption is up
to 50 miles to the gallon.
It has enough boot space for everything needed for a day at the
beach, or to accommodate the results of a shopping trip.
Lawrence Holland, general manager of UK importer AIXAM Ltd, said:
“The Scouty GTR is highly distinctive, with appeal to the
younger driver looking for a second vehicle that is fun and easy
to drive, or for anyone looking for a holiday destination runaround.”
Weighing in at just 380kg, the Scouty can be towed on an A-frame,
making it easy to transport to any holiday destination.
