The Suffolk-based Wyard-Scott Group has expanded into Norfolk,
to open the county’s only dealership offering the AIXAM
and MEGA ranges of light private vehicles and ultra light utility
vehicles for business.
Gavin Taber, son of Wyard-Scott Group owner Adrian Taber, is
managing the company’s new Roydon Service Station premises
in Roydon High Road, Roydon, near Diss.
He says that the company is experiencing significant levels of
interest from business customers in the county, particularly for
MEGA’s electric and diesel-powered Multitrucks, which have
been growing in popularity with environmentally aware businesses,
and with small businesses looking for a compact alternative to
conventional vans.
He said: “We have felt for some time that the time is right
to open up in Norfolk. We were one of the first companies to start
selling and servicing AIXAM light private vehicles when they launched
in the UK in 1999, and we began to stock MEGA Multitrucks about
18 months ago.
“There is increasing demand for ultra light utility vehicles
from small business owners such as gardeners and plant nurseries,
as well as from large organisations including local authorities
and holiday parks, which want a highly specialised vehicle to
carry out specific tasks and to act as a compact ‘workhorse’
that requires minimal maintenance but has a smart, appealing look
to complement the business’s image.”
The business has taken over a derelict petrol station and refurbished
it, and taken on two new employees to help in operating a new
Gulf service station that is also marketing the vehicle ranges.
The next stage is the creation of a showroom.
Roydon Service Station is offering both electric and diesel-powered
versions of the MEGA Multitrucks, which are available in van,
tipper, dropside and pick-up versions, all measuring just 3m in
length and offering a payload of up to 3 cubic metres or 415kg.
Gavin said: “The electric models in particular are attracting
serious interest from environmentally-conscious businesses, as
they are silent, create zero carbon emissions on the road, and
are almost 100 per cent recyclable at the end of their working
life.
“Running costs are around 2p or 3p per mile.”
Roydon Service Station is also selling AIXAM’s Crossline,
a light private vehicle designed to offer a comfortable and practical
alternative for experienced motorcyclists who hold a full motorcycle
B1 licence, but who are not qualified to drive a car.
Vehicle servicing will be carried out at the business’s
head office in Cockfield, Suffolk. Customers will be able to drop
their vehicles off at Roydon, however, and will be provided with
a loan vehicle if required.
